What have the School of the Wordites have been up to recently? Hold your breath and here goes... serving at both the Embrace conference and IMPACT Church Planting school, preparing and delivering our second preach this year, interviewing complete strangers on the street (more about that later) and studying in detail another great bunch of Books from the Bible. Phew! It has been a busy month as we quickly approach the end of the current academic year.
To focus on a few specifics from recent weeks we have been delving into the Major and Minor Prophet books; trying to establish an understanding of their character as well as the often more confusing aspects of their visions! If anything this process has been extremely faith affirming, as we can see the historical evidence proving the accuracy of each vision. Some of the visions are specifically for the End Times, but the fulfilment of others demonstrates that God's Word is trustworthy and will come to be.
We have also been looking at the words of wisdom from none other than King Solomon himself! In 1 Kings 3 God enquired of Solomon in a dream, “Ask what you wish me to give you.” Solomon asks for greater understanding, which pleases the Lord. We certainly see how God blesses Solomon with great wisdom, compiled within books like Proverbs and Ecclesiastes.
However our study of Proverbs wasn't limited to the classroom. Oh no! Instead we launched on the unsuspecting public of Maidstone, interviewing them on any pearls of wisdom they may have been given during their lives. Not an easy question to answer when put on the spot (I'm still thinking on mine!), however they did exceptionally well under the pressure and we returned to class with pages of notes.
Not only was this a great exercise in obtaining and comparing worldly wisdom with the Bible, but it also showed us students that the High Street really is a 'mission field' (I thank Carole Rich for this nugget!). People were surprisingly open and friendly towards us and we received very few rejections. It is amazing to think that with an opening question you can quickly establish a rapport with a complete stranger.
So that's the latest from School of the Word for now; will fill you in again shortly!
